Marion County International Raceway in La Rue, OH for the 1st annual Jet Wars offered a wheelstander, jet cars and fireworks.  Like most all of the weekends so far this year rain was a player again this weekend.  Friday afternoon and evening showers along with a chance of rain early Saturday held a dark cloud over the event.  By Saturday afternoon the sky had cleared and it was time to go racing.   A very large crowd was on hand as the show was started off with the Super Charged Thunder group doing battle with each other.  KC Jones and Paul Kelly ran their jet dragster trains against each other and the Interceptor was paired with Gary Fore's Super Cobra jet funny car.  Each of the jet rounds started off with a run by the Brewers Peace Maker wheelstander.
It was great to get together with the other exhibition drivers (Like I always say, it's like a big family) as we don't always run together and at time it maybe some time before we see each other again.  As was the case with Gary Fore.  It had been almost two years since we had run with Gary and even though he didn't bring his wife Harriet with him, it was still good to see him.  We forgive you Gary.
Gary and I put on a good show for our fans as did KC and Paul.  We would like to thank our hosts Mark and the entire Primavera family.  We were welcome with open arms and look forward to running there again next year.
At the end of the show we all were treated to a large fireworks show, right after the Interceptor and Super Cobra crossed the finish line..  This show was about as good as any I had seen and lasted about 20 minutes.  Way cool...

Rolling Thunder Dragway at Mid-America Motorplex in Pacific Junction , Iowa just outside of Omaha was our next stop.  Weather again followed us this past weekend as a nasty storm came through Friday afternoon.  Sunny, blue sky was a nice change change for Saturday afternoons race day.
A big crowd was on hand as well as the full pit area.  We were paired up with Fran Peppler and her Rock and Roll Thunder jet funny car.  It was nice to see Fran and Phil Peppler again as it had been almost a year since we had seen them last.  One of the benifits of this work is getting together with good friends at the track.  We both put on a big show for the crowd, lots of fire and smoke.  Les Shockley was up next with his Super Shock Wave twin jet engine truck.  Les had a little problem and ran off the end of the track.  He was OK. but the truck got a little pack with mud, out in the Iowa corn field.  The truck suffered only very minor damage.
Just as the truck had completed the run, here came the rain again.  We just can't seem to be able to get away from the rain this year.  Jim "Road Kill" Howe our host had planned a large fireworks show at the end of the event.  With the weather turning, he made the call to send the fireworks up to close the show a little early.  Many fans sat in the rain as they watched the large firework show.
This was our first visit to Rolling Thunder and we were pleased to met so many new fans and look forward to returning in the future.

The next stop on the ADRL tour, Knoll Motorsports Park, just off US 131 in Martin, MI.  The Pro Mods were there to do battle, but so was Mother Nature.  Rain, stroms and more rain.  Did I say rain, about 7 inches of the stuff fell Friday afternoon and most all of the night.  The very large crowd on hand was ready to see a night of racing action.  The Interceptor was able to get one run in before the rain Friday night.
On a side note; US 131 being one of my old home town tracks brought some freinds out to the track that I had not seen in some time.  Will Fowler and Sue spent most of the weekend with us and acted as crew members for the weekend.  I had worked with Will years ago and it was great to get together with them and chance up on old times, thanks for the help and the BBQ.  I also ran into a couple other Denso co-workers at the event and it was also good to see you again.
Saturday more afternoon and evening rain, lots of lightening and thunder, moved the race to Sunday.  Sunday started off with sun and blue sky, but the rain and lightening caused problems with the track.  The finish line score boards were out because of lightening Friday night.  Lightening Saturday got the starting line christmas tree.  A Sunday morning meeting with all drivers and ADRL's Kenny Nowling started a interesting day of racing.  With no score boards or starting tree, Kenny Nowling arm drop started racers in all 4 of the pro classes, including a run by the Interceptor.  Kenny said after the run, that he had gotten a little hair burned off his neck as I went bye with the Interceptor in afterburner.
With only the final round to complete the Interceptor made another blast down the track.  We had just returned to our trailer when Mother Nature showed her power.  As the photo below shows it got pretty nasty as the storm went through.  Thank God, the damage was kept to a minimum, but the final round was postponded until the next ADRL event to be held in Radford, VA..
